I consider it such a privilege to meet new couples and document their relationships, learning bits and pieces about them and their stories along the way.  Candice and Daniel are a perfect example, though I must admit that they cheated a bit by bringing way too much to the table.  First off, Daniel has a top notch name, can't argue with that.  Second, they have a ballin dog named Bo and brought him to their engagement session, with a NO HOLDS BARRED policy on me being able to pet him.  Which I did, incessantly.  Third, Candice knows I have long/rebellious/unwiedly hair and bought me a bottle of her favorite product to try, and it basically changed my life.  They're big fans of adventure and new experiences and goofiness and all sorts of other things I'm partial to, but above all they love and support each other.  Their story is an amazing and inspiring one, and as fun as it's been to goof off with them, I'm most excited (and humbled) to be a part of the documenting this piece of their journey.  So without further ado, here are a few peeks into our exploration of Brazos Bend State Park, an old date spot of theirs and a locale full of interesting surprises :)

Goodness gracious, have I been excited to share this wedding.  You may have picked up on it by now if you've read any of my other posts, but gosh do I love documenting life.  It's the vanishing moments, the slow stories, the beauty of people and the world that surrounds them that keep me coming back to capture tiny pieces of an infinite subject.

I've been blessed to work with consistently awesome couples over the past 8 years, but these two stepped it up a notch - Deanna and Nicholas' wedding (and shoot, even they themselves) spoiled me something fierce.  Nicholas is the kind of guy that makes anyone feel always welcomed, like you've been great friends for years by the time you first meet.  Deanna is that wonderful balance between selflessly kind and a little rebellious - she's a talented wedding photographer (no pressure Daniel), and quite possibly the most encouraging person I've ever shot with, but I can also warn that she'll shark you at the local pool hall if you're not careful (trust me, she has countless amazing stories of this).

When they told me their wedding was in Colorado, I went pretty berzerk (internally of course).  I'm a mountain and wilderness nut, and it's been a big itch of mine to combine my love of landscape photography and wedding photography into one story.  Because their wedding was to be in a little town called Carbondale just northwest of Aspen, most of their guests made the scenic drive from Denver through the mountains, rivers, and farms of central Colorado.  Well, that 4 hour drive became 12 hours for me, as I stopped countless times to capture bits and pieces of this long 'wilderness warm up' to the wedding.  It snowed a fair bit on the way over, especially around the icy roads of the 12,000ft Independence Pass, so it felt like I came upon a secret oasis of color and warmth in Carbondale.

The wedding itself was breathtaking, not only because of the stunning scenery, but because the purpose behind the wedding was real to them.  Having the wedding in a gorgeous location was icing on the cake, but clearly not the cake itself.  It was an intimate (but oh, quite lively) celebration of the two of them and their families, and it would have been just as beautiful if it was in an old building or a simple church.

All in all, I have had an absolute pleasure getting to know these two and am blessed to call them friends.

So at long last, here is a series I put together to show some pieces of the story:

I'm so thankful for old friends and new families.

I'm also humbled - humbled that I get welcomed into their lives, that I'm given the privilege of documenting them at their most dolled up, most casual, most goofy, most intimate, most real.

Jessica and Lane are two truly special people, and I'm not just throwing those words out because it seems nice to put on a blog post. Lane is the sweetest guy you'll ever meet and well on his way to becoming a rockstar doctor, and Jessica is a talented actress and all-around fascinating renaissance woman.  They're both incredibly bright, quick witted, just the right amount of childish, thoroughly well traveled, and persistently, effortlessly kind.  I have no doubt they're going to be amazing parents, and I'm so excited to see them grow as a new family.

It was an absolute blast hanging out with them at their home in New Orleans and capturing a slice of their home life (and I don't mean the pumpkin cinnamon buns, though they were definitely life changing).  Once again, I'm thankful: for Jessica and Lane as friends, for life in small pieces, and for the opportunity to journal times like this through photographs.

Much love y'all :)

One of my favorite aspects of wedding photography is being able to work with a couple from start to finish - getting to know them during the wedding planning, hanging out for a fun engagement session, capturing some beautiful bridals, and documenting the wedding day from morning to night.  It helps me to understand the couple and their relationship, and makes it so that we're old pals by the time the wedding rolls around.  I just love the story behind it all.

So today I decided to make a big post of snippets from Jessica and Greg's three sessions!    They wanted some natural and fun engagements, fashion focused bridals, and a mix of everything for the wedding day.  They're awesome folks with adorable dogs, and are a great example of the variety and personality I selfishly love to shoot :)

After a few months of traveling and being away from the blog, I'm excited to start sharing new sessions again!   Many many posts to write and stories to tell, but for now I wanted to share this engagement sneak peek as my first jump back into things :)

Whitney and John are two awesome, laid back, people-loving folks who have just been super cool to work with.   We had a blast shooting their engagements out in Magnolia, and I'm beyond pumped to be photographing their wedding later this year!
